How to Schedule a Restart for Windows 11 Updates

Getting used to anything new on a computer can often be frustrating, and even more so when its the operating system. Take for example the simple task of re-scheduling a restart following a windows update.

If a Windows update is available but you don’t want to interrupt your work to do a system restart, you can schedule it for a more convenient time or date (up to 7 days), here is a simple way to do it.

Whenever an update is available (and Windows wants you to restart your system to install it), you will see a small “restart icon” in your taskbar near the clock. It looks like two curved arrows.

click on the icon to open the “Windows Update” page, you will see the “Restart Required” message, and under it “Schedule the Restart.” click on “Schedule the Restart”.

On the “Schedule the Restart” page, click the switch under “Schedule a Time” to turn it “On.

Then select your time and day from the “Pick a Time” and “Pick a Day” menus, then using the back arrow in the upper-left corner of the window go back to the update dialogue and you will see your scheduled restart listed.

If you want to manually check for updates to make sure you’re completely up to date, you can do so in Windows Settings.

Right-click on the Start button and select “Settings” from the list.

In Settings, select the “Windows Update” option

In Windows Update click on the “Check for Updates” button

If there are updates available you will see a list of the available updates and a “Download Now” button which you will need to click to begin downloading the updates to your PC.

After an update has been downloaded, click the “Install Now” button to begin installing the updates.

Windows will restart your PC if it needs to, but not all upgrades will require a restart.

Once your Windows 11 installation is fully up-to-date, you will see a message that says “You’re up to date” and that’s it job done….
